Saltwell Park is a Victorian park in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, just south of Newcastle city centre. The park is part of the Gateshead’s heritage and is also known as the “Peoples Park”.

In recent times, the park secured a ten million pound lottery grant that was used to both improve  and restore the park to its former glory.

Saltwell Park is not just about its wonderful views however, as it is also home to public sports facilities, a lake, play areas, bowling greens, Saltwell Towers, the animal house, an education centre and a maze.

The park opened its doors to the public in 1876 and is made up of over 55 acres of land made up of natural landscapes, woodland and beautiful cultured gardens that attract over two million visitors a year.

For those that wish to have a break from all the amazing activities at Saltwell Park there is also a great refreshment area where you can enjoy hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes as well as hot meals.

Saltwell Park is very well maintained with such excellent facilities that in 2005 it was voted “Britain’s Best Park” and the following year received the “Green Flag Award”.
