Days Out In Newcastle: Parks and Gardens

Newcastle is a large and busy city, yet for all the hustle and bustle it also has many beautiful and well-tended parks and gardens that locals and visitors to Newcastle can enjoy.

Located on the outskirts of the city the Tyne Riverside Country Park is situated close to the River Tyne. The park covers a huge expanse of wonderful parkland including the river, walkways, bridle paths, woodland, grassland and agricultural land.

The park is open from 9am to 5pm every day throughout the warmer months and open most days, weather permitting, in the Winter.

Found right in the heart of the city, Exhibition Park is a wonderful place to escape the fast-paced life of the city. The park covers 35 acres and was opened just after 1881 for the use of the people of Newcastle and visitors to the city.

This wonderful park includes moorland and a large selection of plants, while also hosting many activities such as boating, picnic area, café, Military Vehicle Museum, basketball, tennis, mini golf and a children’s play area and more.

Saltwell Park


saltwell-towers-by-thetim-flickrSaltwell Park is the epitome of a fine Victorian park, with 55 acres of the most beautiful landscapes, woodland and gardens along with the awe-inspiring architecture of the Victorian Saltwell Towers building.

The park is open from 11am to 5pm in the summer months and 11am to 3pm in the winter months, including all bank holidays.

Leazes Park


Leazes Park is located right near St. James’ Park, Newcastle United‘s home of football, and is a wonderful green area for people to visit.

Leazes Park was originally opened in 1873 as a place for the public’s health and recreation: it is still a popular attraction today.
