Community centres are said to be the heart and soul of any community and in Newcastle upon Tyne they are no exception.
With dozens of community centres spread all across the city and surrounding area, local community members are actively engaged in making their lives better and brighter.
In the main, community centres are run by volunteers who are signed to a Community Association: the city provides for them grants to help in the running of centres and to offer affordable entertainment activities for the people in and around Newcastle upon Tyne.

Thomas Gaughan Community Centre
The Thomas Gaughan community centre provides a number of useful activities, such as Girls and Boys groups, Community Catering, an Outreach Library as well as educational activities.
The centre operates in the former Social Services Day Care Centre, which provides a lot of space and comfort for the activities currently held there.

Heaton Community Centre
One of the longest established community centres in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Heaton Community Centre attracts children, youths and adults interested in enriching their educational background.
Part of a larger complex, The Heaton community centre provides Adult education classes as well as an English course for speakers of other languages.
In addition, the centre is the home of the City’s Play and Youth Service Area team, gathering youths of all ages for various activities.

Fawdon Community Association
Located in the North-West area of Newcastle, The Fawdon Community centre is the only Neighbourhood Centre with external sporting facilities.
This advantage has made Fawdon a popular attraction amongst people interested in maintaining their physical shape or simply for encouraging their team spirit.
The building is modern and well-equipped, allowing easy access to people with disabilities.
