The 23rd Tyneside Irish Festival runs from 10th October to 25th October 2009, with a number of events and shows all over Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding area.

The aim of the Irish Festival is to present a diverse range of Irish cultural expression, through the presentation of  performers and artists as well as engaging the local community.

seamus-heaney-by-norman-macbeathThis year the Festival is associated with the Seamus Heaney event at the University of Newcastle, and there is a program of storytelling across twenty Tyneside Schools by speakers Kate Corkery and Pat Speight.

The primary venue for the Tyneside Irish Festival 2009 is at the Tyneside Irish Centre in Gallowgate.

Cran

Irish Folk Music trio featuring Desi Wilkinson, Sean Corcoran and Ronan Brown
Saturday 10th October: 7.30pm at Great North Museum

Official Opening

Featuring the Liam Turner Band and Hannon Murphy Dancers, as well as the Tyneside Irish Awards

NLP Theatre: Singin’ “I’m No A Billy, He’s A Tim”

The anti sectarian play, direct from a successful run at Glasgow’s Citizen’s Theatre
Wednesday 21st October: 7.45pm at Tyneside Irish Theatre

Cara Dillon Band

The angelic voice of Cara Dillon is joined by Ed Boyd, John Smith, James O’Grady and Sam Lakeman
Friday 23rd October: 7.30pm at Gateshead Old Town Hall
