The Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust
The RACT was set up in December 2005 by Robbie. Its aim was to raise money for the children’s oncology ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Robbie wanted to start by Funding a large wall-hung plasma T.V. for the teenagers room on the ward in time for Christmas. Fund raising began in his village and the T.V. was on the ward for Christmas Eve.
Twelve year old Robbie was diagnosed with cancer in December 2004. For the next fifteen months he spent a great deal of time at LRI. He found the facilities for children of his age and older teens totally inadequate and was determined to do something about it. The continuing generosity of local schools, churches, family and friends has enabled the RACT to help provide the ward with equipment the children need to make their time in hospital as comfortable as possible. Items such as laptop computers, portable DVD players, space saving flat screen T.V.’s, camcorders and play stations are all needed. Children undergoing chemotherapy for days at a time or who are attached to drips and blood products often need their entertainment to be bed-based. Robbie wanted his Fund to help with this.
