Out of Town Retail Centres in Newcastle
Newcastle upon Tyne is a haven of retail heaven, and what many people have discovered on retail therapy sessions is that this is not just resigned to the city centre, but there are great deals to be found at the retail centres around the outskirts.
Here are just a couple of examples of shopping experiences outside of the City centre that are as big a part of any shopping trip as any other!
The MetroCentre
The MetroCentre is located on the outskirts of Gateshead, west of Newcastle.
The MetroCentre boasts over 330 stores with 50 restaurants and cafes and even a large Odeon Cinema, so definitely has something for everyone!

Monday to Friday 10.00am to 9.00pm
Saturday 9.00am to 7.00pm
Sunday 11.00am to 5.00pm
Bank Holidays 10.00am to 6.00pm
The cinema and restaurants have later opening times.
Travelling to the MetroCentre by car couldn’t be easier and is very clearly signposted: it is located next to the A1 just after the turn off for Gateshead, and just before the A1 passes over the River Tyne.

At the MetroCentre you are sure to find all the big names you want under one roof, with such department stores as Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and House of Fraser.
The Galleries
The Galleries is found in Washington, just south of Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead.
The Galleries has over two hundred retail stores boasting a huge number of large names such as Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Select, JJB Sports, Thornton’s, Boots, Clarks, Bon Marche and Barratts Shoes and many others.
As wellas the more famous names in retail, there are also many smaller stalls where ocal proprietors sell their wares.
You can get to the Galleries by car by travelling to Washington centre just off the A1231 (not far from both the A1 and A19). There is free parking at The Galleries.
By public transport, all buses to the Washington area pass by The Galleries, which amounts to some 1000 bus journeys a day!
