The Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle is a Grade 1 listed building and the oldest Victorian theatre still in use anywhere in the world; it manages to seat more than a thousand people while still feeling cosy and intimate, and wherever you sit you feel close to the action and the performers.
Centrally located and easily reached on foot from both the Central station and St James’ Park metro station, the nearby Stowell street could provide your pre show meal with a plethora of famous Chinese restaurants!Next door to the Journal Tyne Theatre is another well known resident of Westgate Road, Tilley’s Bar; this atmospheric pub retains an old charm that oozes out of its wooden floors, and it serves a fantastic selection of real ales. This is definitely the place for after show drinks as it is a favourite with theatre goers as well as actors, so you may just get a chance for a chat with one of the cast afterwards, and with Dance City being just round the corner it often hosts a, shall we say, more appreciative crowd of arts and culture.
