18th and 19th June 2010 | 'Love and War' at the Sage, Gateshead

Contemporary Dance at the Sage Gateshead Mark Bruce Love and WarIn his startling new work Mark Bruce uses theatre-in-the-round and a soundtrack including Sparklehorse, The White Stripes, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Waits and György Ligeti, to plunge the imagination into a raw arena of the otherworld.

Time shifts and figures from myth and ritual collide; Gods emerge amongst frenzied cheerleaders, murderous strangers, dogs of war and bedraggled homecoming queens, in a heart-searching dance work of savage beauty.

Love and War is the Mark Bruce Company’s latest full-length production since its critically acclaimed Sea of Bones.

“the seven characters in Love and War turn out to be darker and more potent than any circus troupe.” The Guardian

“Love And War is an intoxicating carnival of emotions that’s bursting with violent passion, rich symbolism and genuine beauty” – Suit Yourself Magazine

“Bruce’s choreography has never looked more inventive, with classically based moves twisted into ferocious gestures of destruction or strung out into decadent ennui. The dancers are excellent.” (Sea of Bones) The Guardian

Please note that there are two performances of this concert – on the 18th and 19th of June 2010.
