This event is to send my first shop Rosewill Cottage on its maiden voyage!

Rosewill Cottage will be the home of cottage industry goods and supplies in Whitley Bay. Its main focus will be on beads and findings which will come from suppliers I have been sourcing and liaising with for the past three years.

It will also be a workshop for Rosewill’s Charms where people can order bespoke jewellery and charms in store.

Doors will open at 10:30, further details to be confirmed!

The next big event team will be swinging into Blaydon to open a 1920’s pop up restaurant for the night.

As well as 1920’s food, we’ll have cocktails from the era, and the swing eight will be making another appearance this time showing us how to Charleston!

As well as the usual communal seating, you get to seat with other 1920’s starlets, flappers and dashing heroes.

All are welcome as always to come in groups, couples or independently. As long as you come along we don’t mind. Please note: There is a pay bar so there will be lots of cocktails to try. Cocktail menu coming soon.

The secret supper dinner table: If you are coming independently, you’ll be seated with other people attending the event independently on the secret dinner party table. With your icebreaker on the table along with your Gin Martini on the go, you’re sure to make friends straight away.

The essential ingredients of the Next Big Event are:
 
We hire a venue (anything from a village hall, to a gallery, to a country house)
We decide on a theme (it could be anything from a 1920s cocktail party, to a masked ball, or a just a simple relaxed supper with friends)
We create a menu & cook the food (we love food!)
We sell tickets (and that’s where you come in!)

Our events are open to anyone. Whether you be single, in a couple, or a family, we welcome you to our events. A lot of events include a sit-down meal, and these are usually held around big tables, which means you get to mix easily with other people. We also do larger events, where sitting at large tables wouldn’t be practical, such as cocktail parties or masked balls and for these we offer waiting staff to bring mouth-watering morsels directly to you. Our events are a great way to socialise with friends, as well as to meet new people in the north east.

Seasonality and fresh produce are as central to the concept of The Next Big Event, as the people, the venues and the music. When planning our menu we consult the calendar to see what fruit and veg, meat and fish will be at it’s peak. Although it’s not always possible to create an entirely seasonal menu we aim to do our best. We work to source our food locally, where possible and from farms with excellent welfare standards, and from grocers with outstanding reputations for quality fruit and vegetables. We welcome feedback from customers and menu ideas, so if you would like to see something different then please let us know.

Christmas Fashion Ideas from Emma Newman of Emma’s Boutique

As the dark nights have suddenly crept up on us our thoughts seem to naturally drift towards the Xmas party season. It may be a big night out with the girls, the work Xmas do, or a family get-together, but we always plan our outfits in advance to make sure we are as dazzling as the fairy lights on the tree!

The High Street is now full of cocktail dresses, fabulous embellished tops and sparkly sequin minis (which I adore!). My tip with anything that sits high above the knee is to wear super thick opaque tights to spare your blushes- far better to be demure if you plan on drinking lots of Cosmopolitans! As expected, I tend to keep my outfits simple and focus on my accessories, meaning I can re-use items in my wardrobe or invest in classic pieces. Zara have a fantastic range of shift and cocktail dresses in a huge range of colours – pick out jewel colours such a Ruby and Teal – which can be used as office wear, then ‘jazzed’ up for impromptu cocktails after work. Keep a pair of killer heels under the desk just in case!

The 80s seem to have made another comeback (Why do we all like shoulder pads and birds nest hair so much?!), so expect to see neon, puffball skirts, animal prints and sequins aplenty. Dorothy Perkins have this fab sequin blazer in stock, perfect for teaming with some skinny jeans and heels. If this is sequin overkill (shameless plug alert!), Emma’s Boutique have this lovely sequin clutch in a range of colours (Silver, Purple, Blue and Black). We also love this fab snakeskin clutch. Can you wear Orange?

A redhead should probably go for a burnt orange shade (Benetton do a fabulous double breasted coat for £105- perfect for taking you into Winter).

Perfect Orange Fashion for 2009

I personally feel the best way to use this colour is to use it as a detail to lift an outfit- there are lots of orange accessories around. I sell an orange pashmina in my collection, it’s a great way to add an affordable and on-trend ‘pop’ of colour. New Look also sell a fabulous puffball style skirt with contrasting black bow (bows are still very fashionable this season, thank goodness!), which will be great for a girls night out.
