The River South Tyne, between Bardon Mill and Beltingham, contains a complex of gravel bars that are now vegetated over.
Some of these contain lead, zinc and cadmium from mining upstream, and support calaminarian grassland.

We will be visiting one or possibly two sites in the Tees estuary to watch the seals hauling out at low tide. We expect to get good views of Common Seals with pups and maybe the odd Grey Seal for comparison, and there may be a chance to catch a glimpse of an otter.

The boat will leave Seahouses promptly and we expect to be out for about 4 hours.
We hope to get good views of Grey Seal, possibly some dolphin and small whale species, together with a range of adult and immature seabirds.

On Saturday 19 June we will be holding our annual “Day Out” at Close House.
This year there will be lots of opportunities to catch and identify insects plus chances to see some of the experiments on plant ecology that are running at the Close House Field Station.
