This event is to send my first shop Rosewill Cottage on its maiden voyage!

Rosewill Cottage will be the home of cottage industry goods and supplies in Whitley Bay. Its main focus will be on beads and findings which will come from suppliers I have been sourcing and liaising with for the past three years.

It will also be a workshop for Rosewill’s Charms where people can order bespoke jewellery and charms in store.

Doors will open at 10:30, further details to be confirmed!

The Discovery Museum is housed in the former headquarters of the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS), which was built in 1899.

During 2010′s Heritage Open Days, visitors can join a guided tour behind the scenes of Discovery Museum, finding out about the rich history of the building.

Places are limited to 20 people per tour.

Mosses and liverworts are both abundant and diverse at this site. The epiphytes are particularly diverse and include several locally uncommon liverworts.

The site has not been well‐explored for bryophytes and we are likely to find new species. The diminutive oceanic liverwort Microlejeunea ulicina, or “fairy beads”, was found here for the first time in Northumberland as recently as 2006.

The Great North Museum: Hancock is full of amazing patterns, from the stripes of a tiger’s fur to detailed designs on 3,000 year old pottery from Ancient Greece.

Explore! Amazing Patterns challenges visitors to hunt out their favourite patterns and, using the museum’s special cameras, create a collage which will be displayed in the Museum’s Explore! More gallery.

This is a FREE event, no booking necessary.

On a walk from Alston, upstream to Nenthead, the excursion will look at typical Carboniferous cyclothemic deposits and their influence upon landscape and ecology, together with abundant evidence of mining for coal, iron, lead, zinc and barium minerals.

The role of Quaternary processes in shaping the landscape will also demonstrated and mineralogical sites of world renown will be visited.

Stout footwear, waterproofs and a packed lunch should be carried.
