In 2010 New Year’s Eve – traditionally known as Chuxi – falls on the 14th February and signals the start of the longest Chinese holiday, lasting fifteen days; at this time Chinese families across the world will reunite for parties, present giving and feasts, to herald in the Year of the Tiger.

Celebrate Chinese New Year in Newcastle | 14th February 2010

Newcastle’s Chinatown sees in the Chinese New Year, Year of the Tiger start with an explosion of celebrations on February 14th 2010.

Visit the Chinatown area of Newcastle (Stowell Street, Charlotte Square, Bath Lane and Waterloo Street) to join in the free celebrations including traditional parades, dancing and firecrackers.

The Newcastle Chinese New Year Celebrations start at 11am through until 4pm, with performances and the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Parade in Bath Lane from midday along with a Chinese Arts and Crafts Market. You should visit Blackfriars for the Garden Party Marquee and Low Friar Street to see the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony.
